We're excited to announce the start of our Cute Cat Video Contest. Each week during June, July, and August, we'll review the videos submitted and announce a winner.
Winners will receive a copy of Taunee's book, Hooked on a Feline: Basic Cat Care from a Different PURR-spective.
Plus, we'll publish your video here (view samples) on Scratchings & Sniffings and who knows when Steven Spielberg or Ken Burns might stop by and discover you (or your cat)!

Hi - Congrats on being a Typepad featured blog! Living in a small town with a vet who visits once per month, we are not exactly bombarded with info regarding our dog. I am hoping that Dr. Larry can help me. We have a sweet small to medium-sized mixed breed that we picked up at a humane society five years ago. He is somewhere between six and eight or so. He really is a sweet dog. He barks quite a lot when someone is walking down the street or he spots a dog or cat out the window. He also reacts quite strongly when someone comes to the door. We generally hold him back and upon asking the visitor if they like dogs, let him sniff their hand. Sometimes, he still barks at them a bit once they're in the house.
Our main concern with him is when we are walking him. He is generally on the leash in town until we get to a dirt road that we like to walk. Sometimes, for no particular reason, he will sort of nip at someone as they walk by. At this point, we're keeping him on a short controlled leash when we are passing another person or dog. Once we're on the dirt road, I let him off the leash and then - we can meet almost any person or dog and he is fine! (I can't always count on joggers, bicyclists or vehicles - he may chase or bark at them!) I've noticed that - although he wants to sniff at other dogs, etc., he appears to get all tense when they are sniffing him like he doesn't want them to. Anyway, now that summer is approaching and our street has a number of families with small children, I am worried about something happening. I am sorry to have rambled on here. Hoping that what I have mentioned here is all tied together to some training thing that needs to be put in place. Thank you for offering this service.

Yvonne,
Congratulations on being Typepad's featured blog! As a cat lover (but not current cat owner - as a favor to my husband), I look forward to seeing the entries in your cute cat video contest ... it's a great way to get my feline fix while keeping my marriage intact.
