We're back! Back from our little jaunt to Colorado - land of the mountains. They did convince me to go up to the mountains, one day. I will reserve comments for a later time. It's obvious that I am the ONLY one in the world who is not enthralled by big rocks.
Anyway, throughout the vacation, I worried about Carmel and her leg. As regular readers know, we have been struggling with a terrible lick granuloma on her back leg, for years and years. We've had it to a certain level of healing only to have some little incident at home spark a renewed desire to lick it open.
Well, some time ago, we put a sock on it. Literally. I grabbed a sock out of my sock drawer and put it on Carmel, and tied it with some string. To our amazement, she stopped bothering it. To the point of complete healing. Oh, we had set-backs here and there (like when Tom and I go out to meetings for extended times of the day, or away for the weekend). Then, Carmel would either lick through the sock, or try to get it off. She did not do major damage, but it was clear that the sock was here to stay.
Enter this month and our 10-day trip to Erie, CO, to visit the daughter and granddaughter. While thorougly enjoying our visit, we also worried about what was happening with Carmel, and her lick granuloma. Mind you, she had good care - the boy (who is supposed to be her true master) was here, and gave her the best attention he could. Along with her vitamins and stuff. But... I was very worried that our being away for so long would jeopardize the sock routine.
EXCITING UPDATE: Carmel did not lick her leg once while we were gone! In fact, she did manage to lose the sock (sometimes if we don't secure it well enough, it falls off) while the boy was not home... but, she did not go at the leg as she might have in the past. I'm astounded! And thrilled! So much so that after our walk this morning, I did not replace the sock.
So far... all is well. If only it stays that way!
Isn't it funny? During our trip, my granddaughter got all excited about making a sock puppy. I'm surrounded by socks and puppies. It's heaven.
Stay tuned for another outstanding solution to this nerve-wracking problem. The Strock. More on that in our next post.

Hello Yvonne - I was thrilled to hear that Carmel is behaving and not licking her leg incessantly anymore! I wanted to share with you the latest exciting news for my little company and The Strock by sending the link of a Podcast to you that I am featured in discussing the beginnings of The Strock and my company, Best Buddy Pet Products. I will also be included in the upcoming book entitled "We Are Smarter Than Me" and this is tied to that publishing due out in September. As you will hear, it's a 50/50 split of time talking about my company and where I secured some financing, Prosper.com. I hope you enjoy listening to it and the update. For now, take care, Lyn Townshend, Best Buddy Pet Products (.com)

this has nothing to do with your story but your dog carmel looks just like my old dog charlie (a girl) who died a couple months ago. i do not have any photos of her and i needed one for a project at school so i was looking for a pic of a dog that looks like her. your photo helped and i hope carmel is ok.
