Animal Shelter Make-over Contest

I like to check out the NY Times now and again...for more than just political commentary or "today's news." They often cover pet stories that prove to be useful and entertaining.

Like this one, "In a Makeover Contest, Shelter Hopes for Space" by Jennifer V. Hughes. (free registration may be required) The story is really neat. Web site ZooToo is "holding a $1 million shelter-makeover contest" where a big number of shelters are vying for first prize.

According to Jennifer's article in the Times, "Web site visitors earn points for their favorite shelter by reviewing products and services, posting photographs or commenting on new pet items."

When I visited the site I saw a lot of cats and kittens, and a nice number of dogs, also. Turns out the ZooToo website is based in Secaucus, NY and founded by a former chief executive of Meow Mix.  Petcentric, the Purina web community, is mentioned, as are a number of deserving shelters.Areyoulookingatme_2

Richard Thompson, founder of ZooToo, feels that we pet people love our pets *more* than our kids. Or, that we are certainly as passionate about them. He points out that our kids eventually leave home...but our pets are with us to the end. And, giving us unconditional love. What more could we ask for?

I think YOU should get over to the ZooToo site and help your favorite pet shelter get in the contest. Let's get some action, shall we?
