In this session of Scratchings and Sniffings Out Loud, with Dr. Larry McDaniel and Yvonne DiVita, we learn a bit about lyme disease and dogs. The idea to talk about this came from a recent visit to the vet with Carmel. Listen up because this disease could affect your dog, and we want you to have some insight into how to approach the subject with your veterinarian.
Yes, cats can get it, also, but that's not as common as dogs having it. Some of the symptoms are fever, acting 'off', achey bones as if arthritic... in truth, the symptoms are varied and could mimic other issues, so if you live in a rural area, if you take your dog hunting or camping or hiking, or...if you think your dog could have come in contact with ticks (which carry the disease), see your vet and ask about Lyme disease. Dr. Larry explains it better than I ever could:

Several veterinarians and pet owners observed lymes disease symptoms in cats, dogs, goats, cattle, sheep, and horses. Hence, avoiding tick bites and receive treatment on time for Lyme disease in your pet is vital.
