People are truly going to the dogs, these days. And, to the cats. Our pets are taking charge, front and center, both on the net and on TV. I can hardly turn on the morning talk shows (have them on in the background while I blog) without noticing a story on pets. Seems that the down economy and the ever-present bad news is making us more pet friendly.
Of course, you and I have been pet friendly forever, I know that. But, the stories in the news and online serve to cheer us up, present an uplifting view of life. They seem to be reminding us that pets are more than furry friends, more than four-legged creatures. The stories remind us, and everyone else, that our pets are beloved members of our family.
For instance, over at The Healing Art of Pet Parenthood (my friend Nadine), she talks about pets and translation - in a podcast with animal communicator, Maureen Harmonay. Fascinating stuff. Do you believe you can really communicate with your dog or cat? I do.
Over at the new pet community, ZooToo.com they are sponsoring a Shelter Makeover. The goal, as stated on the site, is: "...connecting communities with their shelters across the country to help raise awareness for needy animals and increase adoptions." The winner will be chosen by America, so...get involved and help a local shelter in your area...then talk it up.
For the best pet content on the net can be found at Guy Kawasaki's Alltop site for pets. He gathers great blogs and showcases them on one page, to give us immediate access to everything pet worthy. A new addition is Pawfun, created by a good blogger friend of mine. Fun and fancy to be found, there. This post on cats that look like Wilford Brimley is a burst-out-loud laughing post. Enjoy.
I'm so glad we're recognizing the power of pets to help us stay healthy, to give us something positive to think about, and to spread the love. There is nothing better than that - is there?
