Purina® ONE® is Looking for Heroes in the Lives of Pets. The press release offers a number of ways to be a hero in the life ofa pet.
Here's how they get our attention on the opening of the press release: "Imagine waking up every morning wondering if you'll someday be able to find a home to call your own or how you'll find your next meal." We all know there are abandoned and neglected pets who do that, every day. It hurts to even think about it, doesn't it?
Well, Purina ONE has teamed up with Martha Stewart to "support pets in need." Martha, of course, is a big pet supporter - and shows it on her blog and even on her show, time and time again.
So, here's how this project goes: from Feb. 3-26th,the Purina ONE Tour for Heroes is traveling the country from San Francisco to New York, stopping at animal shelters in 11 cities along the way. They will set up temporary food banks and hold adoption events, while there.
"Every pet owner who visits an event and is in need of food will receive" one 8-lb bag of Purina ONE dog food or one 3.5 lb bag of PUrina ONE cat food, while supplies last. They are bringing more than 63,000 pounds of pet food along!
Adoption is a big part of this movement and while "not every pet lover is able to adopt an animal, people can still help pets in their own community and across the country through online social networks. Purina ONE and Martha Stewart are helping pet lovers make a difference and raise funds by simply sharing photos of adoptable pets on Facebook." Very kewl!

Hi! I'm the Pets Editor for MarthaStewart.com and I'd like to thank you for mentioning the Tour for Heroes and Purina ONE's "Share a Profile, Feed a Pet" initiative on MarthaStewart.com/Pets! Even if you've already shared a pet on Facebook you can do so again, and if you haven't yet, please do! We've raised nearly $4,000 so far but we have a long way to go to reach our goal of $50,000 by March 31. Thanks again!! -Mark
