Just made that up... sharebook Saturday. Maybe it should be ShareBlog Saturday. Or, sharepage Saturday. Or, share whatever stuff ya got Saturday. :-)
I like to share important stuff when I can.
1. Hound dogs are the best dogs in the world. Yes, I"m prejudiced. My Chester melted my heart. Well, did you know that once hunting season is over, some stupid folks put their hounds out... or up for adoption. Christie Zizo wrote a fantastic post about it. Read it and share, please.
On another note, this site exposes grammar myths. Those of us who take our blogging seriously need to pay attention to things like this. Love it! Check it out. This is my favorite from the post:
4. THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO WRITE THE POSSESSIVE FORM OF A WORD THAT ENDS IN “S.”
Wrong! It's a style choice. For example, in the phrase “Kansas's statute,” you can put just an apostrophe at the end of “Kansas” or you can put an apostrophe “s” at the end of “Kansas.” Both ways are acceptable.
Over at the Rabbit Advocacy Network they're asking: "Will Rabbits Be the Next Chicken?"
They say, "Rabbit Advocacy Network has argued that Whole Foods Market (WFM) is not being truthful when their representatives claim that the reason they are selling rabbit meat is because of customer demand. After six months of rabbit meat sales, RAN has yet to see this demand, nor has WFM produced any documentation whatsoever to indicate how many people have asked for, or are buying, rabbit meat. Instead, the company is simply shipping dead rabbits to their stores in the following regions: Northern California, North Atlantic, Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, South, Pacific Northwest, Midwest, and the Washington, DC metro area.
Whole Foods’ goal is to create a brand new demand, where one did not exist before, for rabbit meat in the United States."
It's worth a visit to The Rabbit Advocacy site to check out. I'm torn. I agree with them - Whole Foods seems to be 'creating' the market for this, which will unleash horror on rabbits. But, then I ask, "if we farm them humanely, is that okay?" I had a pet rabbit once and it was made into a stew, which scarred me for life. So, I do not want rabbits to become the 'new chicken'... neither do I want chickens to endure abuse to be sold for food, yet, I like chicken.
I'm being honest. I don't know if I can ever become a vegetarian. But, I do want animals which are farmed for food to be cared for with love and support. Unfortunately, they are all to often treated with disregard, torture, or worse. THAT is what is so unacceptable, it borders on criminal. Wait... it IS criminal. If only humans who abuse animals, in whatever capacity, were jailed for very long times, we might see an end to the cruelty out there in the world.
And, so...vegetarians say that is why they do not eat meat. In reviewing the stance Whole Foods is taking about rabbits, I can understand. Join in the discussion, please.
