I wouldn't even take the cat to the vet for a routine visit in the summer, temps here can be over 110 outside the car and it's just too hot inside waiting for the A/C to cool the car. Course there are emergencies, best to have the A/C running before putting the cat inside. It can get even hotter in a cat carrier.
